Community Engagement

We are committed to taking an active and positive role in the local community.

Building relationships with local stakeholders is central to our approach.

These include our site neighbours, community representatives, local groups and charities, business networks and the wider general public.

We work hard to keep the community informed as the project progresses and respond quickly to any feedback we receive. It is important to us to make sure that we are accessible, that we listen, and that we understand people’s concerns and expectations.

Public Meetings

In addition to the Liaison Group Forum at the mine site, we regularly attend regular public meetings, such as Parish Councils, local community groups and business networks, to update people on the project and address any concerns they may have.

We have also held regular public information evenings and exhibitions to educate people on the project, its aims, impacts and opportunities.

Our next drop-in information sessions will take place on the following dates from 4-6.30pm:

July 5 Eastside Community Hub, Whitby
July 10 Hawsker Village Hall
August 5 Sneaton Village Hall
August 21 Stanghow Community Centre
September 10 Egton Village Hall
September 25 Littlebeck Village Hall
October 16 Stanghow Community Centre
October 23 Hawsker Village Hall
November 22 Eastside Community Hub, Whitby
November 27 Sneaton Village Hall
December 3 Egton Village Hall

Liaison Group Forum

Liaison group forum

The Liaison Group Forum is a group of site neighbours, representatives from local authorities and from the company that meets quarterly to discuss project updates, raise concerns and address any issues. Chaired by the Company, its membership includes representatives from the National Park Authority, local authorities, parish and town councils, and wider community stakeholder representation as appropriate. The meetings are open for the public to participate. Notices and minutes of its meetings are published online.

Responding to concerns

We aim to minimise the impact of our activities and encourage people to contact us if they have any concerns.

It is important to us to respond quickly, and we aim to give an initial response and start our investigations within 24 hours.

Give us your feedback

In delivering the Woodsmith Project, we take our responsibility to the local area very seriously. We want to make sure that we are accessible, that we listen, and that we understand people's concerns and expectations. Responding quickly and effectively to the feedback we receive is an important part of this.

Please get in touch, using the channels below, if you have a concern or complaint. All complaints will be treated seriously, fairly and with courtesy. We aim to make an initial response within 24 hours and resolve complaints within three days, although it can sometimes take longer than this. We publish information about complaints, with the identity of the complainant kept confidential, to the Liaison Group Forum (LGF). The minutes of the LGF meetings are available here: https://uk.angloamerican.com/our-community/liaison-group-forum
