As well as bringing new specialist skills to region, which we need to sink the shafts and drive the tunnel, we are providing a host of high-skilled opportunities to people from the local area.
Our long-term aim is that at least 80% of the operational workforce is sourced from the local community. We are already working towards this target through our apprenticeship programmes and other initiatives.
We are committed to recruiting and developing 50 apprentices before the Project goes into operation.
Since 2018, we have taken on 42 apprentices; 29 on our Advanced Engineering programme, and 13 specialising in Cyber Security. We have created a Cyber Security Apprentice Centre of Excellence, based at our office in Scarborough. Providing a two-year, Level 4 apprenticeship, our first cohort of Cyber Security apprentices started in 2022, before a second group joined them in October 2023.
