Triton, the Mines Rescue operator for the Woodsmith Project, recently linked up with Teesside University to put their team through a gruelling training session in their heat chamber, to replicate hot and humid conditions they'd be likely to face underground.
As part of their training regime, Triton regularly put staff through their paces at various locations designed to test their fitness, teamwork and problem-solving skills. They regularly practice in disused mines, and also train on site at the Woodsmith Project, so they are as familiar as possible with the areas they may encounter.
"Without the rescue service, the mine can't operate, it’s important we train these guys up to the right standard to be able to respond to any incidents," said Neil Williams, Rescue Officer.
Jonathan Davies, Director at Triton, added: “This project is cutting-edge, a project like no other, and what we’re creating is a modern mines rescue service that takes into consideration a whole raft of skill sets.”
